Farmington Shotokan Karate School Sweeps The Competition!!!

 For the third time in a row, student's at the Maine Shotokan Karate Association Dojo located at 221 Broadway swept the competition...and again brought home the Grand Championship Trophy!!

 April 30th 2011 at the University of Maine Orono Open Shotokan Tournament...There were approximately 170 people competitors in all divisions of Kata (Forms),  Kumite (Fighting),  and Kobudo (Weapons). "We swept each division that we entered", said Mike Cook, Instructor. "Our school was definitely considered ..."A cut above the rest!"..."My students, the parents, spouses,... everyone connected with the Maine Shotokan  Karate School received accolades from fellow competitors, instructors and the general audience on how well each performed... and how respectful and well disciplined each Farmington student was!" We did well...Luck plays a small part...Good training and strong basics work all of the time...in any sport or discipline. The Maine Shotokan Karate Association School is the oldest, continuous Traditional Japanese Karate School in the State of Maine.

 Five local people entered different belt divisions...everyone came home with a trophy (s)...including  5 first places in Kata, Kobudo, and Kumite ...and Grand Champion...also 3 seconds and a third .

 Front Row: Alexis Schneiderat (14 year old, 1st Degree Blackbelt)  3 First Places...Kata(Forms), Kobudo(Weapons) and GRAND CHAMPION (in the Grand Championship Finals, she defeated two 30 and 32 year old men!!!)

Second Row:  Lisa Turner, 4th Degree Blackbelt, took First place in Kumite (Fighting) and two 2nd place in Kata (Forms) and Kobudo (Weapons). Hunter Gleason, a green belt, took First place in Kobudo (Weapons) and 2nd Place in Kata (Forms)

Back Row: Deborah Scamman, a Blue belt, took 3rd Place in Kata (Forms) and Aaron Walston, a Blue belt, took First place in Kata (Forms).
